Western Red Cedar: A very popular top wood for the last 40 years, cedar gives a very bright tone which develops fast, needing little breaking in. Cedar is also a stable wood, less prone to cracking than the spruces. Now popular for both classical and steel string guitars, cedar seldom disappoints. Carefully logged and stored since 1984.

White Cedar : This wood is indigenous to the central US, and is not in common use due to the variations in color giving it a striped appearance. It is, however, an acceptable soundboard material for those persons who want something out of the ordinary. My supply was hand cut and carefully stored in 1989.

Coastal Redwood: Renown for its stability, redwood produces a beautiful guitar with a smooth, even tone. When teamed with back and sides of rosewood it is especially nice! My selection is old growth, with spectacular visual characteristics. A good choice for a guitar exposed to great changes in climate due to its stability. Carefully logged and stored since 1984, with some sets dating to 1935.

German Spruce: Traditionally regarded as the premier tone wood for guitars. In very short supply. It possesses all of the desirable qualities of tone, especially when teamed with Brazilian rosewood. My selection is the highest quality, carefully logged and stored since 1976.

Engleman Spruce: A high quality spruce from the Rocky Mountains, carefully selected for its uniform color and exceptional sheen. Strikingly beautiful bright white color with exceptional translucency, this wood gives an exceptionally deep bass, and is used to great effect on guitars with more than 6 strings. While less stable than cedar, this wood gives the tones desirable in spruce while playing in rather quickly. Carefully cut and stored since 1981-2.

Sitka Spruce: A very strong wood popular for steel string guitars, especially 12 strings. My selection is chosen for uniform color, clear grain, and striking medullary rays. A very dependable selection, especially for custom guitars. It makes excellent brace wood as well due to its strength. Carefully cut and stored since 1976-1983.

The Rosette: To add to the many unique features of my guitars, I developed my rosette from the Camino de Santiago de Compostela.
